Confederation Cove Mussel Co. Ltd has been in operation since April 2000 in the old Marine Atlantic Terminal building. After renovations and a major expansion, P.E.I.’s most modern mussel processing facility was created.
Although Confederation Cove has been in operation for only a little more then a decade, owners John Price and Stephen Stewart have been working with shellfish for the majority of their lives. They have both played a significant role in making the industry what it is today.
John Price has been working in the shellfish industry for over 30 years. He started with one truck that he drove himself, distributing fresh shellfish between Prince Edward Island and the New England States. John currently owns and operates JP’s Shellfish. His dedication to quality and hard work has enabled him to become one of the largest shellfish distributors in the United States and Canada.
Stephen Stewart has been growing mussels for more than 25 years. His mussel farms supply 50% of the mussels processed at Confederation Cove. Through his hard work and dedication he has grown to become one of P.E.I.’s largest mussel producers. Stephen is an industry leader and throughout his career has been the President of the various Mussel Aquaculture Associations on Prince Edward Island.
